As a new year begins, it’s a great time to reflect on the past and think about what we want to accomplish in the coming year. It's about taking a step back and reflecting on the past year, and then making intentional decisions to move forward in a positive way.
The concept of having a single word to focus on is powerful. It helps to keep me grounded in what I want to achieve, and what I value most in life. It serves as a reminder for me to focus on the things that matter, and to appreciate the moments of beauty and joy that life brings. Additionally, it help me focus on my goals and intentions for the year to come.
This year being 2023, my #OneWord is Renew. Renew is a reminder to refresh and recharge. To make sure that I'm taking the time to invest in myself and in my relationships. My hope is I will reawaken, rejuvenate, restore, improve and transform the lives of those around me.
My #OneWords for the past few years have been:2022 - Amplify: Amplify is a reminder to go big and make a big impact. It's about pushing past the boundaries that I set for myself and striving to reach new heights. It's about taking the time to recognise and celebrate successes, and then using them as motivation for future growth.
2021 - Agility: Agility was important to me as it reminds me to remain flexible and adaptable to whatever life throws my way. It also encourages me to be proactive in finding solutions rather than becoming paralysed by fear or confusion.
2020 - Cheerfulness: This was a difficult year, and it was important for me to remain positive in the face of adversity. Choosing cheerfulness helped me to focus on the good in my life and to be kind to myself and to those around me.
2019 - Breathe: This was a reminder to take time to slow down and take a step back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It was a reminder to take a few moments for myself to relax and reflect.
2018 - Joy: Joy was important for me as it was was a reminder to stay focused on the things that bring me joy, and to keep my perspective on the bigger picture.
2017 - Hope: I chose hope because I want to focus on the possibilities that the future holds. No matter what challenges I faced, I want to remember to stay hopeful and optimistic. I want to remind myself of the importance of having faith in something greater than myself.
2016 - Wonder: I chose this word to remind myself to appreciate the beauty of the world around me and to have a sense of curiosity and exploration. I want to take the time to explore new ideas and experiences, while being open to the possibilities and potential of each situation.
It’s easy to get sidetracked, become complacent or get stuck in a routine but having a #OneWord to keep me on track helps me to stay motivated, inspired and helps to remind me to break out of that and push myself to learn new things and venture into uncharted territory. I would encourage you to take some time to reflect and ponder what your #OneWord might be!
